I am passionate about gardening, nutrition and cooking … what a blessing … as they all seem to offer the opportunity to continue the learning process into perpetuity … which is also a passion of mine … learning.
I completed my undergraduate degree in business in May of 1998 and graduated magna cum laude with my Bachelors in Business Administration. From there I started a business doing personal gardening installing and maintaining organic gardenscapes primarily designed by Patricia Cowan and Lucy Harrell … both very talented women.
In September of 1999 my first grandchild was born and 11 months later diagnosed with Neuroblastoma cancer. I shut down my business and cared for him during this challenging but rewarding time. I say rewarding because being in this situation really forced me to stay in the present and I was truly with him throughout this ordeal. After walking through surgeries and chemo and a period of isolation with him we set out to do all the things we had not been able to do for the previous months … Six Flags, the zoo, picnics, parks…just all around fun stuff.
My interest in nutrition and organic gardening was already robust but this challenging time served to further fuel my desire for more knowledge about how our lifestyle and nutritional choices each day impact our health and those of our descendants well beyond what we generally think of. This along with my own health challenges, I have an autoimmune condition … Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, led me through a winding path that culminates in my certifications as a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (NTP), Functional Nutrition and Lifestyle Practitioner (FNLP) and a Certified GAPS Practitioner. My unique wisdom and perspective is as a result also of immersion in Holistic Management International’s Beginning Farmer and Rancher Training as well as a Permaculture Design Certification. Understanding how the health of the soil is so intimately tied to our health was an eye opener for me and is something I weave into my teachings with each client.
Taking from a quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson … “I pray to leave the world a little better; whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier” … will enable me to leave this earth with a smile on my face …
